Dr. Nwachukwu graduated from Columbia University, where he was a John W. Kluge Scholar and a member of the Columbia men’s basketball program.
He subsequently attended Harvard Medical School, graduating magna cum laude, and earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. His combined medical and business education helped shape an enduring interest in both clinical excellence and the way healthcare is organized and delivered.
Dr. Nwachukwu completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Hospital for Special Surgery, followed by fellowship training in sports medicine at Rush University Medical Center.
He currently serves as Co-Director of Clinical Research for the Sports Medicine Institute at Hospital for Special Surgery and as an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College.

During his career, Dr. Nwachukwu has received numerous research and academic honors. At Harvard Medical School, he received the Janee and Paul Friedmann, MD ’59 Surgery Prize, awarded to an outstanding student pursuing a surgical specialty. At HSS, he received the Lewis Clark Wagner, MD, Chief Resident Award for Excellence in Orthopaedic Clinical Research.

Dr. Nwachukwu specializes in the treatment of sports-related and degenerative conditions of the hip, knee, and shoulder, with particular expertise in joint preservation and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery.
His clinical practice includes treatment of hip impingement and labral pathology, hip arthroscopy and labral reconstruction, ACL injuries, meniscus and cartilage injuries, knee ligament reconstruction, shoulder instability and labral tears, and rotator cuff disorders.
His approach emphasizes accurate diagnosis, evidence-based treatment, restoration of function, and helping patients return safely to the activities that matter to them.

Before becoming an orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Nwachukwu competed as a collegiate basketball player at Columbia University. That experience continues to influence his approach to patient care.
