Benedict Nwachukwu, MD understands the demands and needs of athletes. As a former collegiate athlete and a four-year starter for Columbia Universities men’s basketball team, Dr. Nwachukwu’s orthopedic experience is personal. His experience and understanding of athletes of all types sets him apart, giving him a unique and specialized approach in treating patients in the Upper West Side and the surrounding New York boroughs. Dr. Nwachukwu is currently a medical consultant for the National Basketball Association (NBA) Player’s Association and formerly served as a Team Physician for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, and DePaul Athletics. Dr. Nwachukwu specializes in helping patients recover completely from hip, knee and shoulder injuries, allowing them to “stay in the game.”
Dr. Nwachukwu is an expert at providing complete sports medicine care, including conservative, non-operative treatments. Since many sports injuries require a non-surgical plan to return athletes to the game, Dr. Nwachukwu is able to help athletes return to their sport safely and efficiently. As the Co-Director of Clinical Research for the Sports Medicine Institute at HSS and a Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College, Dr. Nwachukwu is one of the best choices for hip, knee and shoulder care for individuals in the Upper West Side.
